Entrepreneur Warren Mosler was no stranger to the automotive industry before the creation of Mosler Automotive in 1993. It was eight years earlier, in 1985, that Warren Mosler first began his automotive journey with the rather unique Consulier GTP under Consulier Industries.
This was the brand’s first sports car that was extremely successful but unappealing. Immediately after the car was unveiled, Mosler wanted to show off his incredible performance in competitive races, and that it did. It showed everybody that it was virtually unbeatable, but unfortunately, it was hit with a weight penalty by IMSA and was banned from competing altogether in 1991.
To this day, it’s one of the few cars that has been banned for being too successful! It was in 1993 that Warren Mosler decided to re-brand and set up Mosler Automotive as his own company, mainly due to the Consulier’s massive success. During Mosler Automotives’ first few years, the company’s manufacturing of cars continued, modifying their old GTP into their new Intruder.
An even faster and more impressive motor, that was Moslers Automotive’s first official motor. Well, it’s safe to say that Mosler gained a huge amount of success from the get-go, and that success continued in 2001 with the release of the Mosler MT900.
Mosler MT900: An Impressive Design With An Inventive Name

The new Mosler model was designed by Rod Trenne, the man who had previously helped design the Corvette C5. Why is it called the MT900? Well, the name is an abbreviation and quite a clever one. The abbreviation includes the names of those who worked on it, those being: Mosler and Trenne, while the 900 represents the car’s target 900 kg (1,984 pounds) weight.
The original prototype consisted of just one car with an LS6 V8 engine, able to achieve 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 mph. It wasn’t long before Mosler decided to split the development two ways. The MT900R was designed for competition racing, and the MT900 was the road-legal version.

The MT900S would later follow in 2006 as an uprated version of the MT900, while the MT900S Photon was available as a performance package. A carbon fiber chassis held the Mosler MT900 in place while an LS6 V8 engine powered the rear-wheel drive system. This fairly impressive engine sat in front of the rear axle as the ZF transaxle designed for Porsche was mounted upside down to accommodate this setup.
Unfortunately, the Mosler MT900 failed to achieve its target weight of 900 kg (1,984 pounds) and instead weighed a slightly higher 1,175 kg (2,590 pounds). However, this didn’t stop the MT900 from churning out 350 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque and reaching 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds while topping out at 150 mph.
The Best Feature Of Mosler MT900 Is Its Sheer Beauty

The MT900’s engine and power output were an incredible feature of the Mosler MT900, but arguably its best feature was its sheer beauty. Even though the MT900’s exterior was poorly designed to aid its aerodynamic capabilities, which created a low 0.25 coefficient of drag, it took nothing away from its impressive aesthetics.
Going solely by looks, the Mosler MT900 was a massive upgrade from its Consulier GTP predecessor, although that wasn’t difficult. The front bumper was positioned extremely low to the ground, so low that it could collect loose rubble. As your eyes rise from the nose of the MT900, beastly louvers can be seen towering up towards the curved windshield.
As well as this, further vents were placed over the broadly flared fenders, adding to that sporty yet aggressive appearance. On the Mosler MT900, the overhang is pretty short, while the rectangular low intake vents and curvier headlamps looked amazing. Working your way towards the rear of the Mosler MT900, a huge rear wing, reminiscent of a GT-style wing, can be found.
The extended tail, shaped like the McLaren F1 and Corvette C4, is extenuated by its short overhang at the front of the vehicle, while the roof-line is almost endless. If the exterior design of the Mosler MT900 isn’t sporty enough, its doors open upwards just like many Lamborghini models.
Mosler MT900 Was Gravely Underrated

While many people believe that the Mosler MT900’s exterior design is rather bland, this is only relevant when comparing the Mosler MT900 to brand-new and up-to-date supercars. Still, its design is magnificent, simplistic yet effective. It’s safe to say that it would get heads turning, mouths drooling, and eyes bulging when stopped at traffic lights, all because of its great looks and breathtaking style.
With the original MT900 coming in at $164,000, sales were ridiculously slow, and only one prototype was ever produced. Still, it was a great-looking motor with rather impressive performance statistics. This impressive sports car was, of course, accompanied by its sibling in the form of the Mosler MT900R, while its upgraded Mosler MT900S sibling was released 5 years later.
Both cars provided their owners with fantastically good looks and fantastic performance statistics. Arguably, both models were more successful, but still, it takes nothing away from the original Mosler MT900 model, which was incredible.
